MIKAEL JANSSON

The Silver Bible

Husky-voiced crooner, bassist, author and music veteran Mikael Jansson debuts as late as at an age of 60 with a sparklingly unique and soulful performance of the collected jazzy "hits" by renowned Cap Verdean jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver entitled The Silver Bible, punning at Jansson's Uppsala roots. Multi-faceted keyboard player Daniel Lantz from Beat Funktion fits his array of vintage pianos alongside Jansson's vocals on the majority of tracks, joined by the inspiring fluegelhorn and trumpet of inspirational jazz trumpetist Jonne Bentlöv on a few of them. Three tracks are captured live with Jansson backed by fiery Hammond organ player Andreas Hellkvist. Jansson's admiration of Horace Silver is heartfelt, in his double but differing interpretations of hits like Filthy McNasty, Doodlin' and others. Torbjörn Gozzi's Blue Note-flavoured artwork commune well with the 50s vintage retro-sound of this uplifting and fun album.
