TRINITY

Nuages

Acclaimed Swedish jazz trio Trinity is back on the scene with their fourth offering, Nuages, another well-baked batch of tightly swinging, imaginative and cleverly-arranged jazz music. Their unusual line-up of trumpet-organ-drums has been an appreciated ingredient of their artistry ever since their debut Paris Eyes in 2010, and Karl Olandersson's fiery trumpet escapades, Andreas Hellkvist's cooking-and-then-some organ fireworks and Ali Djeridis driving and sensitive brushwork are all again on impressive display here for another jazz feast. Again, Trinity digs deeply among the treasures of the American Songbook, but always breathes new life into the oldest of materials; they also introduce a few delightful originals, such as Olandersson's groove-laden Baby Blues, Djeridi's bouncy Whistlin' Driver and Hellkvist's elusive Philosophical Sunday Walk. The inclusion of Swedish pop phenomenon Ted Gärdestad's sweet Himlen Är Oskyldigt Blå (Blue Virgin Isles) is a fitting conclusion to a very expressive and captivating jazz album. Trinity-fans should not hesitate!
